Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.
I would be grateful if someone can help me. I am having a strange problem. In the tutorial Kurt converts the Mummys Polygon hand to Subdivisions to check the smoothness of the hand. I followed the tutorial step by step, but when I convert the hand from Polygons to Subdiv or Polygons> Smooth, I end up having six fingers in total, so I have six fingers and the whole hand converted into subdivisions. It even happens when, I do, POLYGONS > Smooth.
I also changed the settings in the option box, when converting polygons to subdivsions.
Please can someone provide a solution to the problem, I am still a beginner and would be grateful if some could be kind enought to help
Thank you very much for the reply indeed. I have printed some screen shots that show the problem I am having.
Looking forward to your reply and possible solution.
Hey, can't see no screen shots, but i can make a stab at what the problem mite be.
The default settings for the extrude face tool is to NOT keep faces together. And if i remember correctly u need to extrude the fingers from two adjacent faces. yes? if thats the case then each of those fingers will have an extra set of faces running down the middle of the fingers.
Following so far? So when the smooth is applied it treats them as two seperate fingers cuz the geometry aint linked, smoothing around both.
It easily fixed. Select each 'single' vertex, one at a time, around the finger. do it by clicking and dragging to make sure you select the 'double' vertex at ech point. Then just edit polygons->merge vertices, like kurt shows u in the tutorial.
Now smooth again.
Hope that helps. If not, post a non-smoothed poly and sub-d version of the hand.
Its exactly the same problem i first had when i smoothed my hand!
For future reference, if u go to polygons->tool options, u can turn on keep faces together.
