Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Modeling an eye

In all the head modeling tiutorials Ive seen, the eye is left as a NURB sphere, but does someone here know of one that shows how to model the iris & pupil part?

I don't think you can model an eye in photoshop...

Waki: create a NURBS sphere and then select one row of vertices and scale them.

I think Diseasekrot meant that you can just texture a regular sphere in photoshop, without modeling it.

Which row of vertices? First, first two? And scale the in out, smaller?

On second thoughtI'll ill just figure it out. Thanks for the tip.

I modeled a head with realistic eye using tutorial tips from Maya before (not in Photoshop) but actually I stop using Maya and I want to continue.

I forgot almost all I've learned but I know you can make a realistic eyeballs

nurbs sphere> rough out eye shape> deatch the front of the eye from the rest> duplicate the main eye shape and scale it down the the white bit (whaterver its called)> make the cross section of iris and pupic (which will just be a space inside the eye)> revolve the profile and detatch the pupil from the iris> you can then add matterials seperately to each section and parent it all under one group. To be honest its not allways necessary to do this much work on the eye.

Create nurbs sphere > scale size> rotate so the end is facing forwards> make two new isoparms (you don't need to insert them, just the dotted lines) where the outer edge of the pupil and iris will be, or select the isoparms on the sphere if they are correctly placed> go into curves tab click detach cuves.

Should end up with three objects like this: (each object is shaded differently)

ok. i find that the eziest way to make an eye is after u get ur shape, make a ramp shader for it. then use a fractal texture for the part around the pupil. here is an example.
