Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

interior lighting mental ray

It's been a while since i posted something but i've been very busy studying.
This is an interior study with mental ray. Only two lights in the scene, one keylight (pointlight with mr area sphere) and one fill light ( to brighten the effect ). All materials have dgs and dgsphoton materials attached to them. only 50000 photons and 200 fg rays. All the materials have the mix20layer mr node attached so that i could mix in the dirtmap shader.
Like to know what you think of it.

Nicely done.. Realistic. I would say that couch looks very uncomfortable (Come to think of it, i think I saw one just like it being sold at the MOMA in San Francisco).. but I don't think that's what your concern was, considering you called it an interior lighting study. The lighting is very believable, not too flat but not too bold.

Love the Pop Art on the wall as well, nice addition. Did you use a reference room for this or did ya just make it as ya went?

I'm learning mental ray, and I just want to know, how did you get the windows to be all white like that? the only solution I've found is light fog, and that messes up caustics and gi. just curious as to what a clearly experienced mental rayer like you doesuser added image

getting the windows to be white like that is not that diificult. The v ( of hsv ) component of the environment color is set to a number higher then one, in this scene two. The FG rays then get brighter ( like more energy ) and then make those shiny white windows.

I have a AMD 1600+ with 1024 Ram.

Its quiet impressive and looks easy to create, moreover, you have described what u did in a better way than writing a long tutorial...

@sam2maddy2001
its a bit of an out-dated method with out-dated shaders. I wouldn't follow it too closely.
