March/April- Noob JDigital

So everyone knows I am a brannnn noob. I dont have much expirience at all, but hey, I will give it a shot.

My idea is to create a housecleaning robot. The picture shows the concept of my idea. I am not sure what things he will have to clean with yet, but they will be added.

Ok, so I am this far so far, and need some advice for the arms. Should I model them in more detail or do you think this way will suffice?

For that question I would ask myself wheter or not I want the whole model smooth and clean or rough. Since it is a cleaning robot my first thought would be the smooth clean idea, but as I think more about it, the rough edged mechanical type would also seem interesting. But I think it all really depends on you and what you want to model.

Here is where I am at right now. Any advice would be appriciated. Does anyone know where to find a tutorial on texturing in Maya? I have looked around at other guys's models and they are textured, but I am not familiar at all with texturing in maya.

Something like how to make a plastic texture and how to make a metal one too, if anyone knows a tutorial on that, it would be well appriciated.

Does anyone know where I can find a good tutorial on textures (for plastic and metal?) It would help a great deal. If anyone knows of any, or a quick and easy way to do it, please help!

I am a noobie, and dont know too much about how to texture in Maya

Well it depends on what you want. If you are really looking for "texturing", then im as sure as you are. But, if you want to say uv map, then I think there is a good tutorial at www.digitaltutors.com
