converting to sub d's

I'm doing the dino DVD and until now there have ben no problems. Now I'm stuck. HELP... when I convert from poly's to sub's something really weir happens.... first it tell me that I need to do a nominal clean up. I do that. Then do the conversion and things get messed up. Pieces are missing, and there are holes were things used to be. It got to the point that I just deleted all the problem areas and redid them. There is gotta be a better way... right? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Rob

sounds like you haven't got the basics of maya down yet and are over your head in dvds

open up your maya "help" file and search for "non manifold" and read what situations cause this problem to occur.

usually its caused by having more than 2 faces per one edge
