This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.
Hi all, I'm going to give this a shot. I've been using maya for about 2 years, so I chose norm, however this is one of my first char's and I'm a noob at lighting and rendering in maya. I will post my concept sketches and some shots of my character soon.
Here are two pics of indomitable bean. He has blendshapes, fur and is textured. He still lacks teeth/tongue and needs to be rigged. Since he is a cartoon hero type, I will have him being dragged off by a monster screaming in fear and loathing. The setting will be outside at night possibly in a thorny briar patch... but I haven't quite decided yet.
Here is a fear blendshape I'm working on. The fur tends to obscure the shape of his mouth so I'm trying to exaggerate the shape so that it can be seen.
Well its true, I started this char a bit before the contest. Not that much before I got the e-mail about it though. I waited a while to post also. I was thinking it was lighting and rendering that we would be judged on. I won't use him.
I will come up with something else as a replacement for him. I think I have enough time. If not I don't mind trying anway. No hard feelings I hope.
Here is a concept sketch of the monster, that I will be designing and some reference material.
This is the latest version.. all done minus the tongues, UV layout, texture maps, and rigging. I'm going to start on the scene design soon. It will still be outside at night in a surreal briar/forest type setting. I'm going to try to model a female in distress as the briar monster descends to kill her. I'm going to try to make a mist layer on the ground and have the light of the moon streaming through the trees and briar vines. Inspiration for this is artwork by Frank Frazetta.
