Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Polygon snap to curves problem.

Dear all,

I have got a problem in modeling with polygon.
I am currently modeling a low polygon head and I want to
snap point B to edge A (please see the picture).... but it does not work by enableing the snap to curve or by holding down "c" + MMB ~

Please advice. ~

thanks.

i dont really understand whta you want to merge but if you want to merge the vertex a to the vertex b you only have to select both and go to edit polygone-merge vertex.i hope i helped youuser added image

thanks.

What i want to do is to snap the vertex B to the middle of edge A so that i will not have any hole.

hi,

Im not sure a polygon vertex can be snapped to a edge between two other vertices.

I think the easiest way to do it would be split face 'a' accross the middle with the split polygon tool, then snap the vertex 'b' to the new vertex that gets created.

Plus that will give you a much smother and less complex mesh if you decide to poly smooth it or convert to subD's.

Hope that helps

a quick pick explaining.

Spilt the face along the red line (roughly), thus getting the 2 new vertices (big purple boxes)

Snap vertex B to the new vertex on the right hand side of face A, then merge vertices

To snap the vert to the curve:

1. Select the vert to be moved.
2. Click on the curve, with the MMB held down - release the MMB when positioned where required.

The problem here is that some people try to MMB the vert and not the target curve. (Hope that made sence!!).

best

You can snap to a poly edge. Just make sure the cursor is on the edge you want to snap to before you press the MMB. Otherwise you'll be waiting forever for that little guy to jump over to the edge you want. You may be able to adjust the snapping tolerance but it should work fine with the default.

Edit: Keef answered while I was typing ... spooky!

user added image just split the face in half and snap it to the new vert :/

The curve can be on another piece of geometry so - in that instance you wouldn't necessarily want to go spliting a whole series of polygons, just for the hell of it...

PS Hi Dave - will send you a prompt by ESP when I send in my next reply........

he cud then delete the edge and then delete the 6'th vert with one remaining of which he cud snap the vert to.
