Sept/Oct - Norm - varley

Well, this is the first 3Dcompetition I've ever been in so I'll try it out. The game I'm going use is one of the first games I got on NES...Contra. The model will be the main character but futuristic style.

Im joining late so I better get a move on.
GL all!

OH, can someone let me know if this is ok as a choice..cheersuser added image

The character is going to be a evil, twisted mix between arnold from the Commando movie and Lobo from DC comics.

I spent most of yesterday modelling the body and head, I have a low poly version and am in ZBRUSH now beefing it up a bit ( Ill post a screenshot of that.
Here are some pics that gave me the idea for my character.

Nice mesh. I have a serious problem in making such clean meshes and I admire people who has this ability. He looks very tough, exactly like a Commando soldier should be.
When I started doing my entry for this challenge I was using Zbrush for studies, and for help me in modeling. But much people didn't like. I hope you don't face this kind of problem. Problably I will use Zbrush for color maps, since Photoshop painting isn't so intuitive as in ZBrush. Good luck in your work man!

yeah, i beefed up the body a bit here. It'll look better when rendered with displacement map though.
Im working on a backpack to connect to his flame thrower right now I'll post a pic of it when its textured.

Good start on the body, looks like you're getting straight into detail user added image

Have you noticed that the cover of the game has arnie's body in with the blond haired dudes head added? I vaguely remember it coming out and that was brought up in the magazine I used to get (it may have been zzap64). So it fits nicely that you've used arnie as a reference user added image

Hey guys and gals... I was having a minor problem with how I would create a boot that would match the shape of my leg because the leg was already created. I found a really quick work around.
I took some screenshots and made a little tutorial...you can use this mel script for all sorts of things.
Heres the link to my tutorial https://varley.0catch.com/boot/

Starting to texture the skin. I used mental ray's sss skin shader(changed a bit), with a color/spec/bump plugged in.

The head looked really wierd so remodelled a bit (before and after down there). I used that arnold pic i posted as reference.

Now he really needs some eyes and eyebrows and hair.
