Alpha Channel In Maya

Im trying to figure out how to set up the background of my scene in maya to render as an alpha channnel that another program (after effects or flash) will recognize as an alpha channel.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

this usually is the result of by default. Make sure you're saving your renders in a format that maintains an alpha channel (.tga for example).

Personally for Aftereffects I like Quicktime Pro... render out to targa files then string them together in Quicktime Pro as a movie with "millions of colors+" (The plus is the alpha channel)
