maya book

hi,

I'm looking for a good book or two to learn maya. I'm not a complete newbie, that means I know how the interface works, about basic animation very basic modeling and basic texturing. How to use fields and how they affect objects, lightning etc. I am looking for something that actually explains why I am doing stuff and not just prompts "click here, click there, now your scene should look like this" I also want something that explains how expressions work and how to write some basic ones myself.
So I thought I'll ask someone who knows maya better than me which book would be helpful.

thanks in advance for any advice given.

And another one would be Maya Secret of the Pros 2nd edition, teaches you many many things that help your animations, models, and renders, look like it came from the movie =D,

I have "The Complete Reference Maya 6" too. It's really good and you have both tutorials and explanations on almost every topic.

If you want a "walkthrough" book, you could buy the new Alias books (maybe not all of them). With these books you will learn the basics and much more by completing a whole project based on a short movie called “The ChubbChubbs!”. Personally, I prefer the "The Complete Reference Maya 6” kind of books.
