For simplicity to get a hole in a plane, select the plane in face mode then with the manipulator tool use the scale icon to scale it inward then delete the face in the centre. Doing it this way is far cleaner than using a Boolean op.
i think u really need to study the free tuts in here and other sites b4 u take on such a project, making holes is a simple thing. and this project will be hard for people to help u havin a such a lack of knowledge. hope i dont sound awful as thats not my intentions.
highend 3d and kurts dog tutorial are great starting blocks
heres a bike i made after 2 months experience and using free tuts. https://forum.simplymaya.com/showthre...5&pagenumber=2
well i've only had maya less then a week .... but if i don't try, i won't learn .. and i do appriciate the help that i have gotten .. even if it is simple things
u made a pretty cool peddle bike tho, looks nice ..
i plan to have a virtual parking lot full of motorcycles and cars as i progress
i got most of the front forks model'd now and working on the handel bars and then try the front fender
make sure you adjoining vertices are merged, i.e. you dont have 2 verts per edge where it rounds, then bevel the edges to magke the curve smoother and then smooth
this pic of my bike model .. it's just playing around with lights and shaders .. will look better when it's done .. but in the pic, everything is chrome'd and gas tank is glass
this is a updated pic .. got hexagon oil tank , forward controls, front and back fender (back one needs some work) .. the headlights are in position but not completed, and
gonna work on handlegrips, break levers and try to finish off the front rim today
