Render Background

Is there a way I can change the background color of my renders, while still in Maya?

Of course!
Select the camera you wish to render from and under the Environment section (expand it) select whichever background color you want.
If you are using any of default cameras then open outliner and select your top/side/front or perspective camera and do the ame as explained above.
That should do it! user added image

If the worst hasn't happened yet, that's because you haven't tried everything yet!
