I've just finished the the 6 part video tutorial on rigging a character and it doesn't mention how to add controls in the channel box for things like foot roll and attributes for the hands such as fist or individual finger closing and opening controls. Hope that makes sense!
Does anyone know where I can find info on how to do this? I've tried analising the walk cycle tutorial kid to find something and looked through Maya's help but can't find anything!
You know what really helped me with rigging? Maya Kneex tutorial(i think this is what you call it). Check that out. From starting to finish. It also shows you how to paint weights and smooth and rigid bind. Everything abou rigging is in it. Believe it or not, this will really help you.
Hey there. It sounds like you want to add attributes to your foot/hand controls. To do this, simply select the object that you want to addan attribute too (your foot control, for example), then go to modify -> add attribute.. . A little GUI should pop up. Enter a name for you attribute (such as 'foot roll', for example), then set a data type and its min and max value. Then press ok, and you should see your new attribute in the channel box when you select your foot controller. You would then need to use set driven key to make you new foot roll attribute control this action for your foot. There's a tut on this site somewhere on how to use SDK, or you can find out about it in the Maya help files.
It may sound confusing at first but once you do it couple of time, it becomes so easy that it's not even funny. But it is time consuming just like everything else.
Just work at it and don't worry too much if you can't seem to get it right the first time. :attn:
If your lazy and impatient :headbang: like me you write a MEL script to handle it all . . . even to the point of making the character walk and run via code . . . Check out the Walkerman program I wrote . . .
