Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Try rebuilding your surface.

Edit Nurbs > Rebuild Surface > Options

In the options, after inserting an isoparm or two, you want to make sure you rebuild your surface using what I call efficiency settings.

These settings are to select the 0 to #Spans, U and V, CVs options.

When you do so, your isoparms will shift a little bit. See if it will let you insert more afterwards. Also, if you open the attribute editor (Ctrl A) of your surface, it will tell you how many spans in the U and V direction you have. You can use the Rebuild Surface options to tell your surface exactly how many spans you want.

Hope that helps some.
