Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

swarovski crystal

hallo there! I can´t get the right material for a crystal shader. tried it with mr and maya shaders but all I get is a boring transparent object. googled the whole day but there seem to be very few tutorials for creating this crisp reflective effect when a light source hits the facetes from a diamond or something like that. also I´d be curious how to split the white source light into rgb after the light rays crossed the material and step out as caustics. right now the light is monochrome + material is lame = §$%&

any help is much appreciated.

I saw that one after I created some diamonds a while ago.

I only reallly used a mentar ray dgs material and played with the settings and got the following pic.

I created the scene as I saw a animation of some diamonds dropping that someone did in mental ray and wanted to re-create the look of it (I didn't use caustics for the render as I didn't know how at the time).

If you want the material settings then give me a shout and i'll post them up.

heres the pic

whoa! material settings would be great! I tried with dielectric, but still not cool.

also what kind of light did you use? in case writing all settings down is boring for you, I would also take the scene itself to explore shader/light/rendersettings. user added image

thx both of you!

for diamonds why don't you use the following:

dialectic material

col white 180 value (hsv thing)

ior 2.41

but you will never get dispersion (like color streaks and such), you have to use Maxwell or Indigo to get that effect user added image

still would be tremendous!

found the site

https://www.jeffpatton.net/Max7/

but cause of max has no node based architecture, it´s a bit hard to examine the shader network..
