Homemade 3d scanner

I found some free software to use with a webcam and a line laser and a folded piece of paper and make a 3d scanner!

has anyone done this before, i want to try it but dont have a cam or laser

thats pretty cool but where do you get a laser like that???

also can it export to 3d apps like maya and such?
