How to extract (separate) a piece of polygon geometry

Hi,

probably a simple question here but,

how can I extract (detach) a piece of polygon geometry?
EG. remove the arm off a character (without deleting the rest of the geometry)? I want the arm to come off as a big chunk not in individual polys. I'm using Maya 7.01 PLE

select the faces u want to extract

under the polygon modelling menu there should be one called extract

make sure u delete both bits of geo hist after though


Now at SMU doing BSc 3D Computer Animation so its hard to get on here
