Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Is it any good? All ive gathered is that it is like Z BRush except object/primative based. Does that mean it is done like a normal 3d app xcept with the sculpting?

for me, it can handle less polys than Maya, only 300,000 or so....... a disappointment..
oh well, at least i have zbrush! user added image

hmm.. something must be wrong with your computer.

it actually handles higher poly counts better than Z. because there is less overhead, and Z uses ram directly for redrawing polys on screen.
mudbox is a great tool. easier than Z. i remember how many tuts i had to see before i even understood Z, but i picked this up, and in an hour or so i was going.

Yeah I cant understand that Joopson mudbox is designed to go well in to the poly count, same and more than Z brush.

Think I might leave the mudbox though as I'm just getting to grips with Z brush, dont find it too hard, somethings are a bit weird to get to grips with but hey what aint.

glad your liking it Vald, hope your going to post up some of your work using it!

well, i mean slow for navigation.. the sculpting works until 1,000,000... still not too good

but my comp is brand new and has 2 gigs of ram.. and a nvidia GeForce 7600 GT..... SO I DONT THINK ITS MY COMPY :-D

looks pretty cool Joopson. thats the good thing about Mudbox, the learning curve is really elementary

hmm, i was wrong, mine is 1.35 GB ram, duel athlon 4800, and geforce 7600..... could ram be the problem???

Just played around with it then. It is alot easier to use than Z Brush. Unfortunatley i dont think it can texture though? i May be wrong

nicely spotted Vlad, I've been waiting for a demo version for a bit now user added image
It is currently a straight modelling app unlike ZB which has 2.5D painting etc so it depends on what you're after some guy. I get the feeling its been designed like that so it will easily slot into the current workflows that companies have (who may already have ZB). Who knows, version 2 might start incorporating painting etc in as well user added image

just had a quick mess after playing with the features and interface for a bit. Here's a mod of the hadrian head I was working on for the challenge - not detailed yet but it shows how easy it is to sculpt beards and hair!
I think an educational licence may be coming my way soon...

You can bake textures, onto separate layers I think (don't hold me to the layer bit). I read about it in 3Dworld; sounds pretty good - and the results gallery looks great!
