Exploring Render Passes

I'm learning how to render in passes so that I can become better at compositing. I just finished my first test project and wanted to share my results with you guys.

Render pass and compositing project (478k)

As you will see, I broke the rendering down into 7 passes. None of the passes were made using Maya's render pass manager. I like the control I was able to achieve with the passes I created but I welcome advice from any of the compositors out there who can help guide me in the right direction.

CORRECTION: In the PDF file I talk about ADDing certain passes together. What I mean to write was certain passes were placed OVER other passes. Adding and overing are two different functions...
