Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

lag

i have this problem, when i do my project ..and i model , skin , texture and so on... the tabs on my option bar stacks and increases.. its like the history list gets longer ...this causes serious lag when i try to save or run my animation.

the file size also expands.when i go to edit -> del all by type -> history ...the file size goes back to normal and the lag disappears, but i lose all my skinning and my model looks distorted

pls fill me in on this. what is the correct way to deal with the lag and still be able clear the history list.

thks

Im not sure I understand this correctly but why dont you delete the history right before you bind and skin the model? thats how I useally do it. model>texture-[delete history] bind>animate.

Once you perform an action u wont need to revise, u should delete that history then. U could also try navigting in wireframe more often to lose some of the lag.

No, I mean get rid of stuff you dont need, as things can get messy.
I know theres a way to make your model low poly just for rigging, but I forgot how.

I can't say I have that issue...

File sizes are meant to get bigger; as long as you keep creating keys, and continue animating, that's just more information for Maya to keep track of.

Are you experiencing this lag while playing back your animation? Or just while navigating around in your viewport?

If it's the former, that is a memory-related issue. If it's the latter, I cannot imagine why lag might be occuring.

One the side about construction history:

Construction history is self-explanatory by name; it's history of construction operations that have been used while you create a model. You should delete it before doing ANY animation work, though, to be safe.

Once you begin animation, you shouldn't do any more modeling work (and thus, not have any more con. hist. to delete).
