Chrome Shader need help

Hello Guys....,
I am new to Maya and I want to start doing some nice looking things like a chrome ball etc.....I DL the chrome shader from maya website and when i try to use it, it is black and it will not shade the sphere to chrome colored what can i do...... all it is is black ....

Welcome aboard jjakkra!

You need to have some environment around to ball. After all, chrome is like a mirror. It gets it's color from reflections and by default maya's environment is black. Oh and remember to enable raytracing too...
