Tweetytunes Sept/Oct Ruins

Well going to do this one and bloody finnish it. I sick of not finnishing these things, but with a new job (not in cg  ) and life sorting itself out a little - I have the idea and the time for this one.

Going to do a church with a tower that has been hit my a space craft. The idea is that this was first contact with a alien race sent here to crush us. Going to base it of the church here in Dartford as it will be great ref

(but going to change it abit as I dont want them coming after me like they did to sony and insomniac over Resistance: Fall of Man on the ps3)

and I love the idea of killing off a church.

That looks pretty sweet! How do you go about cutting those holes into the mesh?

cheers dudes

got the uv`s and some basic textures on the tower to try and see how little modeled detail I can get away with.

need to delete some of the frame and the flooring but will do that once i have more of a scene. Also want to add a clock and some bells on the top of tower.

The holes are just drawn out using the split poly tool and then delete faces and then apend poly tool any holes. I don`t trust the boolean tools as they make a mess.

looking nice

but im real tidy when i model no matter what it is i always use quads

do u think that using multi-sides makes a differece when doing a flat surface such as this

Now at SMU doing BSc 3D Computer Animation so its hard to get on here

i don't see how - if it's not going to deform or if it doesn't affect how it looks.

normally I only use quads but getting the shape of the hole would have meant adding silly amounts of polys on a simply shape.

I need the multi-sides as there is a hole so you can see the inside and the walls are not flat and therefore would look wrong.

Well I think I`m done with the modelering of the main tower.
As I have said before small details like rubble and debris will be added after. I also have to build some bells and a ladder for the inside, but still have lots of time - just want to start work on the main building.

I also have to uv map and texture some parts of the tower (the side bricks and the detail on top of the roof) which I`ll do now but no need for a image update for that.

I`m loving how this is turning out so far
