reef fish

Hi all.
Just modeled the fish. Made a quick texture for it to see what it may look like. I will redo the texture tomorow when im more awake user added image
Think i will use a trasparency for the fins.. what you think?
Im going for a photo realism shot of the fish swimming through a reef.
Thinking of doing a sea horse too.

WOw thats great!!! Only crit would be the bottom fin. Looks too round and you should make it more boney like the other fins. But then again im not a fishologist user added image

Thanks Louis, hadnt noticed that. I have only put bones on the top fin, but now you mention it, i think i might model bones for all fins. The texutres not quite cutting it.

haha, have to agree with louis there :-)

Heres what im thinking for the reef. I like the idea of the depth of field. I photo shoped my fish to see what it may look like.
To get more realism i would rather use real fish texures.. would this be cheating?

Looking really good mate! Lovely idea for a scene, be real good when animated, if you get hold of the maya secrets of the pors book theres a tute on using hair to dorive the animation of a shark, might be worht a look??

Just thinking that a bit of the SSS material might look good.

What was the score agian????

You might seek out the pattern for the fins a little more. A clownfish has more stripe to the ends of the fins (an extra white stripe and a transparent level, too), and the tail fin also has a more unique shape to it. I'm sorry if I'm being too picky, but I have raised clownfish for several years so I'm very particular about it...:p Good texturing, though!

PS when did the world cup start? I haven't watched the tele for months, so I'm clueless...user added image

Expect to excell...

Thanks for all of the crits.
Think its looking better now.
But i have a problem. All of a sudden in zbrush when i add a line, it goes all pixelatted after i draw the line. Like its real low quality texture. ? It wasnt doing that before. any ideas?
