Global illumination - wierd with transparencies?

Hi,

when I render using global illumination, I get this weird effect, where the eyelash (a plane mapped with an alpha) casts a shadow as if it wasn't transparent - as if it was still a complete rectangle. Hence the large shadow above his eye, cast by the low light.

Anyone came across this before, and know a fix?

thanks,

gubar

I think it has to do with what your shadows are set to. What do you have them set to?

Hi,

You mean on the light's settings? If so, they're set to ray trace.

cheers,

Hmm, could you not just select your Eyelash plane, and in the attribute editor, under the Render stats tab, uncheck cast shadows.

Now the eyelash's shouldn't cast shadows, but it won't cast the shadows of the lashes them selves either.

Hi Mayaniac,

I could do that if I had to - but there must be another solution or something that I'm missing. Surely transparencies work with global illumination without having to do that.

Still, it is one solution if I can't find another.

Did you render it without GI on, just to make sure it was the problem?
