UV mapping a nurbs surface = nurbs, to polys, transfer UVS?

Hi,

I've got a nurbs surface. I convert it to polys, uv map it, then try and reapply the UVs to the nurbs surface (overlap the surfaces, and transfer attributes. I've tried all the settings, world, local, UV etc).

It won't complete the operation - I get the error:

// Warning: Cycle on 'transferAttributes74.outputGeometry[0]' may not evaluate as expected. (Use 'cycleCheck -e off' to disable this warning.) //

I've seen this done in tutorials so know it can be done.

Anyone able to help?

cheers,

gubar

I don't understand this question, i was always given to understand that nurbs surfaces have built in UV'S so first of all why would you want to remap it?
If you convert the nurbs to polygon then the polygon inherits the nurbs UV's so again why remap it?
Are you sure the tutorial wasn't to convert a polygon to nurbs and back to get some uv's on the polygon object?

Am I missing something here ?

Hi jsprogg,

you are correct I was able just to use the nurbs' own UVs. It was just to practice this though... since you don't have much control over a nurbs UVs I thought it was good to be able to convert to polys, layout as you want, the convert back... if you were making a complex shape (a face, for example), wouldn't it be difficult to layout an image exactly as you wanted with a nurbs own UVs?

I could be totally wrong here.

Yeah, thats the problem with it. I remeber someone on another forum saying how dificult it was to texture a face/body etc using nurbs because of that and how polys helped speed up and impove work.
