This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Mental ray, help :)

Hey guys, im probably going to look stupid here, I've looked everywhere and no-ones complained about the problem im having lmao, how dumb am i lol,

Anywho, ive made a backdrop scene for something im doing and i want to render the backdrop animation with mental ray, as it the most realistic render engine for my scene, however, when i go to render settings, the (*.AVI) ext is not there with mental ray?... so im lost.. do i render the images seperatly and join them later or something?i really am lost..

here is a pic of the scene i've made, its pretty basic, i need to ask for some advice with my sdk setup aswell but i'll leave that for another time. in the animation the floor retracts over a pit and has fold out panels inside that fill in the gaps between each floor board.

never EVER render to .avi... there's too many things that can go wrong.

render to still images and put them together in a compositing or editing program.

Accept no substitutions.

1. Open the Render Global Settings window and choose Mental Ray in the Render Using drop-down list. In the Common tab, enter name of your file. In the Frame/Animation Ext drop-down list, select name.#.ext, and set the image format to Targa (tga) or .tiff .

2. Change Frame Padding to 4 to add 4 digits after the name. This setting keeps the animation's still frames in sequential numbers. In the Resolution section, select a Preset from drop-down list.

Hope that helps out! user added image
