Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character
I'm new to Maya and downloaded a tutorial here (the one about the eyeballs). In the tutorial the user has a Polytools shelf which he uses a lot. How can I get the same shelf in my Maya 2011? I downloaded MJ Polytools, but I only get an extra menu and I'm not sure it has the same features as the shelf used in the tutorial. Please help
The PolyTools shelf in that tutorial is a shelf I created myself in Maya as I dont use the default shelves that come with it. I prefer to use only what I need rather than be cluttered with stuff I never use. Everyone is different, you may not want to use what I do, they are just my prefered tools from the edit poly menus and so on
To create a new shelf go to the Shelf Editor, this is in the little arrow drop down just above the tool box on the left of your screen. You can then make a new shelf. To put your own tools on it, simply hold down control, go to the tool you want from the menus and click, an icon will appear for that tool on the shelf you have just made.
From a readers' Q and A column in TV GUIDE: "If we get involved in a nuclear war, would the electromagnetic pulses from exploding bombs damage my videotapes?"
For the same tutorial I can't assign the materials to my spheres. I drag them over the objects, but no result (still Lambert1) also other ways (rightmouse > assign existing materials) do not get a new material on my eyeballs. Does somebody know what I'm doing wrong?

Jerry, Please read the thread before posting, as youve just repeated an answer already given to my poor instruction....cant be having people wasting their own time.
Is he? and I thought he was just being a smarty pants...well he is banned now anyway LOL.
Iljo...go to 'Edit>delete by>shader'...this will clear the shader and try to assign a new one. Or you could go "Window>Rendering editor>hypershade' and delete in there. Soometimes it needs a kick in the bum to get it going again.
