Problem to assign materials

Hello,
as you can see on the picture, I'm trying to assign materials "Front Image" on my polygon; I selected the polygon > "assign existing material" > "Front Image", but nothing happens... I was trying to do the same as the video "Santa" (from this website) teached, to begin my work with two images planes : the front image and the side one. But I'm working on a Mac and I can't press shortcut keys of a P.C.
Thank you for your help ! (I begin with Maya 2012).

I think showing textures is the same '6' key on a Mac as it is on other platforms.

the key

Thank you but it doesn't work; I may not use the good key or I don't hear very well on the video (I speak French and my English is just basic). Could you just tell me the exact key I have to press ?
