Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Making 1 object out of two cubes

All,

I don't know if this is possible in Maya and if this would make sense or if if I'm completely on the wrong side. I want to combine two cubes making one and be able to eliminate edges not needed anymore. With the Combine command I just only combine the two objects but how to intersect the edges and then merge the vertices?
Below a screenshot of what I want to do.

Many thanks in advance for a reply.

Rather then describe it in text here is a video showing you how to do it. An alternative would be to start with one cube and add the edge loop, then select a face and extrude it to form the L shaped object rather then create two cubes and combine them.

@ctbram,

Many many thanks for your short videotutorial! Shame on me, I remember now that I made some time ago something's similar (or on another way) making a cube, inserting an Edge Tool Loop and then extrude a face on the other direction!
But anyway: ctbram, I have not only learned how to solve my issue but also two new things. How to align an edge to another edge and also how to align an edge loop to an edge!
This was really a wonderfull tip.

Thanks again for your quick support.
