Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Hello,
I need help creating a burlap texture like the one seen in this image. I have looked in all the material libraries and i couldn't find one anywhere.
Thanks in advance

There are some fibres in the visor...in the paper section...not sure if this will suffice? Otherwise I would make the texture in PS and apply that as the material with a slight bump map attached....bit of tweaking and it should look ok.

Yeah there's a cloth texture, that's what first came to mind. If you're looking for something more realistic then nothing beats photos, you can even google up something you can manipulate in Photoshop to make it tileable. Have you tried Mayang or CgTextures?

I dont want something too realistic, because as you can see, the teddy still has a cartoonish style to it. and what do you mean by fibers in the visor in the paper section?

If you have a look in the 'visor' there are 'fibre' textures of some sort....but they are in the paper folder in the visor and not cloth...which is wierd. I would say the texture on the teddy is a normal one...just the teddy itself is cartoonish. None the less you could still import an image into PS and tweak the colours, warp it etc....

I'm sorry, but i'm still very new with the whole texturing part of Maya. Is there a way you can give me sort of a broad step-by step of what you recommend I should do?
thank you very much

Ok this is what I came uo with in half an hour, images from google for texture...tweaked in PS and a bump layer made (black and white). I applied this to a cube...hit some lights and burlap...you have to UV the model of course so grab a tut and go for it. There are some here...just download the bits you want...there are plenty out there for free too if you are tight for dollars. I applied a softish bump map with it...trust me you could tweak this a hell of a lot...but its just to help you get motivated...good luck mate.

I have the files if you need them...but I dont think you will.
