This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i
Could anyone of you hassee's suggest films along these lines or even shorts, I haven't seen too many as I was turned off by a few of them, but Rango really impressed me as did Wall-e (Good story I think).
My favorite pixar movies include: Monsters Inc., Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Up
Non-pixar that I enjoyed: Meet the Robinsons, Over the Hedge, Despicable Me, Chicken Little, Dragon Hunters (french)
Some films with more realistic animation that I thought were well done: Legend of the Guardians, Final fantasy: spirits within, Beowulf
Eww Stwert you liked FF: The Spirits Within? Weak plot, sweet visuals, stiff and safe characters, the voice talent was wasted (Steve Buscemi especially, since I enjoy his stuff). I liked Beowulf, Ice Age, Kung Fu Panda, Up, Megamind (really liked that one) and Tangled wasn't bad either.
My bad, communication breakdown, I took you saying you thought they were well done to mean you liked the whole package. I watched it again not so long ago on Hulu (don't ask why lol, it was mostly background noise) and I remember thinking exactly that, "it was back then" but then I thought of Toy Story characters. I know Aki's hair was a big deal but I felt she always had the same look on her face. Oh yeah add Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs to a list of worthwhile ones.
Nah, I watched it so long ago so I couldn't remember if it was actually any good, so I worded my praise ambiguously. Yeah, cloudy with a chance of meatballs was decent, but pretty drastically departed from a fantastic book. So minus points for that.
cloudy with a chance of meatballs, toy story, Final Fantasy: Advent Children, Resident Evil: Degeneration, Bee Movie, Golden Compass (looked really good, watched it with my friends daughter), the Pixar Shorts blu-ray, Surfs Up, Happy Feet.....these are just the ones I can think of that have not already been mentioned
I like a few that have been mentioned already, but below are listed as the ones that spring to mind when ever Im asked what I like or dislike......
Rango is way up there, The Incredibles for me is the best movie out of Pixar followed by Ratatouille and Toy Story movies. I did like How to Train Your Dragon and of course the very first Shrek (the others are so so). Tangled was okay too, more technically but still a good watch. Best 2d animated for me of recent years was Belleville Rendezvous.
Good technically but poorly excuted/dull or whatever would include FF, Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda (Ive tried so many times to watch and like it, its just not there) ICe Age films are just getting lower down the list despite the first one being okay. Things like Bee Movie, Megamind , happy feet and so on just dont have that 'pull' for me to even attempt to even be bothered to watch them on Blu Ray let alone even go to the cinema....
But the worst to come out of Pixar has just gotta be Cars 1 and 2, why, just why??? What the hell was Lasseter thinking??
Edit: I think for me the biggest prob is that the Market is so saturated with 3d animated films that my love for them has disappeared. I remember years back before the 'storm' that a Pixar movie was always something to look forward to with my girls, but now we all just roll our eyes. Unless its something to make a fuss about like ILMs Rango then we just arent bothered, it has to have spectacle to draw us in.
Tintin... I forgot that one. A lot of people didn't like it, but it blew me away watching it in 3D. The story was decent, I didn't like some of the liberties taken from the books, but visually it was a treat, in my opinion.
Jay, I don't know how you can't like Wall-E... it's not my favorite Pixar, but it's in the top half. I thought the story, visuals, character and emotion were all there. And it pushed the envelope. How many other movies can you name where a sound designer is the first cast member? But this is opinion time, so I respect that.
Yeah I forgot Tin Tin, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but its just not at the front of my mind.
hehe dont get me started on Wall-E, once the junk yard sequence finishes that was it for me, it was just weird with the human characters - almost out of place...it went nowhere fast for me. I dont think it pushed any envelope -just my patience Sound designer wise, someone had to do it and it was Ben Burtt, an old work colleague of my Dads in fact from when he worked on Star Wars back in the day (not the new ones) sorry just had to name drop there LOL
