Lofting a head?

Has anyone modeled a head using lofting?

What i mean is creating a load of NURBS circles and getting the proportions/shape right to the front/side reference images then lofting them, it seems quite simple, just wondering if anyone's used this method?

I think it's more popular to draw a curve defining the profile. Then, keep duplicating it around to form the side of the head. CVs need to be pulled to shape the eye areas and nose. Then you loft. It's kinda tough to visualize but looks nice once you get it right.

That being said, there IS an old tutorial floating around that does use circles and you can find it here: How to Build a Head Using Maya 4.
