Rendering smoke mental ray

Hi,

I am having problems rendering smoke in Maya using mental ray. I have a plane set up with a smoke explosion on it using fluids.

The shadow cast by the smoke is completely black and very sharp edged. Ihave put a cube in this scene which casts a decent shadow but the smoke doesn't.

I have a directional light set up and it is using raytracing.

Global illumination is turned on.

Any ideas what I may be missing?

Thanks in advance user added image

Imagination is more important than knowledge.
