Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Problems Rendering Volume Lights in Mental Ray

I created a small volume light shining inward to provide a low-visibility view on a character traveling through a cave, but whenever I try to render it in a sample frame, I get this message: Warning: file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2013/mentalray/scripts/mentalrayUI.mel line 182: (Mayatomr.Script): more than one mentalray globals node found, using just the first Simple_Model:mentalrayGlobals //
I thought the light wasn't working, as the preview when I turned on, "Use all lights," showed pitch black, yet when I tried to import a torch I had from an old scene that used another volume light to generate a similar effect, the loading caused me to see for a split second that the light and its effects WERE present. I'm not entirely sure where to go at this point, so I come to you guys for help. user added image user added image

Please, this is incredibly problematic and I can't continue until it is resolved. I need to know how to change this problem. :/

try exporting all your geo to a new scene sounds like something has gone wrong with mr might be easier than trying to fix it

Thank you David. That worked and I was able to finish my scene, but now I've come upon another problem. I'm trying to batch render, yet no frames are being produced. I fiddled around with diagnostics and here's what I found:
- This scene contains nodes with animated visibility, this requires Optimize Non-animated Display Visibility to be turned off.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Mesh has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:nurbsCircle19 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:joint16 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:joint8 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:joint5 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:nurbsCircle17 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:nurbsCircle9 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:nurbsCircle10 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:nurbsCircle13 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:nurbsCircle16 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:ikHandle3 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:ikHandle5 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:joint1 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:joint4 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:nurbsCircle22 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:nurbsCircle20 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:Advanced_Model:nurbsCircle21 has animated visibility.
- Node Scene_2___Falling:volumeLight1 has animated visibility.

I'm not entirely sure what this means or how to fix it, but all I can see at this point is a message saying, "// Rendering with mental ray... //" and nothing more. Shouldn't it be showing what images are being rendered and what % of them are finished? I was hoping to render while I was out today, but then Maya gave me this issue. Help please? user added image Thank you
