Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

rgba_h not directly supported by image format iff

I just installed the 2014 Maya trail and when I was trying out some particles, this happened.

I cannot see the smooth alpha on my cloud particles.

I'm very new to Maya so a step by step explanation would be very welcome!

Thanks for the help! user added image

The warning is kind of self explanatory, the image format you're using in this case `.iff` can't store the color information, so either change the image format or the data type(see pic).

Edit: The `.exr` format supports rgb_h so you could give that a shot. You might have to do some research on the available image formats and what data types they support. But since you're new, you could just change the data type to `rgba 4x8`, its your standard 8bit image.

I've tried what you said, but it didn't seem to work.
I changed the image format to a .exr with the data type RGBA (Float) 4x32 Bit (didn't get an error
so I guess it's a working Data type) but this seems not to be working in the render.
I also tried to set the Framebuffer to rgba (Byte) 4x8 but also this seemed not to be working but did not get the error as before.
Maybe the problem lies somewhere else?

Here is how it looks like in the viewport.

And here is what it looks like with an .exr or framebuffer to rgba (Byte) 4x8 (both get same results)

Hmm it could be unrelated to bit depth. Could you upload the file?

It's the ramp you have plugged into the transparency of the particleCloud shader. The white in the ramp has a crazy value of 10.000(usually transparency ranges from 0.000 to 1.000) and having it so high introduced artifacts.

Hello everyone,

I'm new too in Maya... and I have quite the same Stylow's problem.
I need to export the motion vector pass (.exr), but I get this error:

// Warning: (Mayatomr.Scene) : output data type "n" not directly supported by image format exr, conversion performed by mental ray

Settings should be good, but the render preview looks strange, here's a screenshot:

Can you please help me?
Thanks
