Having weirdness with bridge function

I'm trying to follow some older tutorial (I think it's in Maya 2008) and I get stuck with the bridge function. I'm bridging 2 sets of edges and it's all OK untill I bump up the divisions. At that point Maya creates new "empty" faces, leaving me with a gap in my bridge. Check out my screenshots before and after adding divisions.

The guy in the tut does not seem to have similar problem, his faces normally show up after he adds divisions.

you have to reassign the shader. it happens sometimes that some faces lose shader after some functions. go to the hypershade, find lambert1 shader, select the object, then right click on lambert1 and pick "assign shader to selection".
