How to import a .3ds file into MAYA...?

I bought this model from TurboSquid and it's a .3ds and MAYA does not want to see it. How can I add .3ds to the drop-down menu?

You need to Export as an .OBJ Format File Then import that .OBJ in to Maya.

There is an easier way. Install the Maya bonus tools for your version of Maya from The Area, then enable the 3ds importer in the plugins panel.
