Planar Trimmed Surfaces

I've imported an Adobe Illustrator 2D image into Maya, done a Planar surface on it, then extruded it, so that I have 3D objects.

What I'd like to do is a Bevel or Bevel Plus on these objects. However, the polygon bevel doesn't look like the regular bevel I'm used to seeing, and the NURBS bevel won't work (It says select a NURBS curve to do a bevel).

Is there anyway to convert these to NURBS? None of the convert options works. Thanks!
