This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

problems smoothing (edited, look in)

Hello - Ive been working on the tie fighter tut and have had some problems with ruff edges, im not sure how to fix it i tryed the smooth edges thing and the smooth polly but it makes it worse, anyone have an idea what went wrong and how to fix it? any help would be much apreciated thanks

select the edges and go to edit polygons - normals - soften harded...and set all for soft

this should take the hard edge away mate

i'm not sure, but it could be that they are different faces (i mean not all verts are connected with the neightbour face) hmmm... don't understand myself user added image

but i would try to select (mouse drag) the verts in a corner of a face and then merge them.... it should solve the prob

Thanks guys - the Smoothing of edges and the other didnt seem to work though user added image i was thinking maybe there isnt enough edges going down cause there is a big space in there, i tryed to use the split polly tool but it wouldnt connect it does 1 or 2 then wont keep going

goto maya3d.dk and download mj polytools... and the awesome Edge loop split feature... woooh.. rules!!!!!

ok i got it pretty much fixed - kevin was right but i just had to get the right smooth setting right, i got it to about 80 but can still see a bit of lines, its no where near as bad as before though, thanks to everyone for the help and kevin the tut is really good, i just finished the first part will download the second soon, here is a few pics of where im at
