Applying textures

I know it sounds like a silly question, but I tried to download the textures available here at SM, but I just wasn't able to apply them to my object. I did this:
1. created an object
2. applied a blinn material
3. clicked on checkered icon next to COLOR
4. choose FILE from the 2D texture list
5. clicked on the folder icon next to IMAGE NAME and browsed to the file (denfo_blue... for example).

When I click OPEN, I get this message:
Warning: failed to open texture file.....

Thx.

Mário.

But, I did get exactly the same when I tried with the wood plank file. It's a texture, isn't it?

Thx

hmmm... good point.

ut of curiosity, what is the file extension of the wood-plank file that you have?

I ask because some folks have had to rename the downloads due o some minor browser issues.

Sorry I forgot to tell: I used the wood plank texture from the "latest uploads" section (the second from top to bottom) on the main page of SM.

Thx

Mário.
