Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Funny Sub-d problem

Oy!

I have a sub-d character. He stsrted out as a poly cube, then i followed the tutorial on how to create a simple man.

My problem now is the when i go into standard mode, i cannot get the display levels to go up and down.
Secondly, when i pick a single vertex in standard mode, it only moves a blue mesh around the model (fig 1) rather than the model itself???????????

Some of the timess a mesh moves, some of the times the model moves...

I need some help....

Ari,

I think (however from your screenshot I can't tell exactly) your problem is that you need to switch back to "object mode".

Remember Maya has several modes "Object & Component" seperate from "Component" Maya has several SubD modelling modes "Standard" and "Poly".

Try switching back to "Object" mode (F8) that should remove your "components" being visible and should have only the entire object(s) highlighted. Moving will now move the entire model (as opposed to components such as verts, faces, etc)

Hopefully this is your problem - otherwise something really crazy is happening....

Nope, thats not my problem...
I want those point to pull parts of the model, not the entire thing... but instead its pulling out a wierd mesh....

Thanks,
Ari

that looks like one of the sub d annomalies everyone gets. though ive never seen this one exaclty. Try going back to before you convert and work from there. what causes things like this is when you convert or collapse your sub D's while your in poly proxy mode. Fiddle around a little with what i just said and let me know.
