deleting edges

Is using the delete edge tool any different than just selecting and edge and pressing delete/backspace? How do i use the tool?

When you press delete, maya will stop you from deleting any bornder edges and gives you a warning. Using the delete edge tool it will let you deleteborder edges.

Also, just hitting delete does not get rid of any hanging vertices the edge may have left, while the command does.
