Moving a rigged character

I have a rigged character.

I want to translate the character in an animation. When I just select the character and move it, the skeleton stays behind. When I select the skeleton and the character, and then move them, the skeleton bends along with the bound characer.

What am I doing wrong?

Okay I realise what's happening.

I have locatorsfor the knees attcheced to the ankle IK handles.

If I delete the locators the body moves with the skelton without bending at the knees.

Ideally, I'd like to keep the locators to amke animation easier.

Anyone advise me?

You could for example group the character and the rig under one transform node. Then you can move them together wherever you need...
