Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

The issue of oil is an interesting one, either from it running out or the counties that supply in too much trouble to worry about it, sooner than people think we will run out. What happens then, will we have the intelligence to have found something else or will those ''business as usual thugs'' convince us all that we should cross that bridge when we come to it?

Of course you are right, we it come to the poor suffering we (as rich developed nations) have a lot to answer for. Both the US and the UK have sold weapons to terrorists and toppled democratly elected governments just because it didn't suit our needs. We also have a bad habit of starting wars where ever there is oil to be had.

That is why breaking the addiction to oil will not only be good for the environment but it will mean a lot less blood shed in it's name.

Well. got some more bad news for you I'm afraid. As reported on Richard and Judy of all places (daytime TV mainly interested in celebrity gossip) scientist now predict that the Gulf Stream which laps the British coat with warm water is shutting down. The wost case is that it could be completely gone in 10 years. I'll just repeat that, the gulf stream could be gone within 10 years.

For those of you that do not know what the gulf stream is or what the effect will be I shall explain.

Warm water is transported up while the cold salt water sinks to the bottom and is carried back to the equator where is warms up and is carried back up the the UK and Europe. There is a similar system that warms the gulf coast of the USA, but for the time being that looks stable but that is only a matter of time as I shall explain.

This stream gives us our warm summers and cool winters, however as we are on the same latitude as northern Canada and Siberia. With the gulf stream gone we will have more or less the same temperature. Great your thinking, at least we might have a White Christmas. Well that will be true but there are some problems. Food production and indeed electricity production in that sort of climate is extremely hard and with a population of so many millions it will be almost impossible to sustain all of them.

This reason why the gulf stream is failing is due to our actions. The more carbon we dump into the atmosphere the warmer it gets, the warmer it get the faster the ice caps melt, the faster the ice caps melt the more fresh water (no salt content) is realised into the oceans, the more fresh water in the oceans means that less of the water is sinking and being taken to the equator and continuing the cycle. The stream has already decreased by 30% since the late 90'2 which partly explains the abnormally cold weather we have been having lately.

The other, more serious effect of this was touched on in the film ''The Day After Tomorrow''. With the UK and some of Europe covered in soo much snow more of the sun heat and energy will be reflected out into space. With that happening the global temperature will start to drop. The further it drops the more snow and ice there will be and therefore the more sun light and heat will be reflected out into space. It will be a vicious cycle that will lead to noting short of the next Ice Age. In short the end modern civilisation and (of course) million upon of million dead

.... only if we let it.

Remeber, all these thing can be avoided is we all act now. Every nation, every country has a duty not only to yourself but all other that come after you. Put pressure on your governments to take action. Find out where your local Greenpeace or Friends of the Earth is and offer your services. Now that you know what is at steak, can you afford not to?

yesterday i saw on the tv news skimos are treathening to put an international lawsuit on the UN against USA and other countrys for destroying their ice and thus their way of living... right now, as in the moment i saw it, im still trying to decide if that was funny or sad... (because cmon, skimos... a lawsuit... on UN... against china and USA... because they didnt signed kyoto... that is funny indeed)

And we yesterday december 9 were having 24ยบ at the sun in madrid and people on the coast going to the beach to bath and sunbath in one of the hottest winters that can be remembered, oh and all the while going a 10% above the kyoto protocol... (well pay the fines, but cmon on 1990 we were just picking speed on petrol consumprion and we still havent topped, as other countrys did... no matter that were leaders on renewable energy, theres no foreseeable way to drop it to the levels of kyoto, much less to 60% current right now)

The gulfstream... cross your fingers or if youre religious pray what you know that theyre wrong or its alrready lost...the world will burn all the petrol (and hopely the gulfstream will still tolerate it) , its just a matter of: "will we burn all the coal after petrol is gone or will we use other cleaner alternatives after oil?" (and in my oppininon thats what sould be lobbyed for...)

A pair of years ago i had to enterview some greenpeace local leaders... ill only say that they werent much about sustainable development, and had "interesting" theorys about that kind of vegetarianism that doesnt even permits you to drink milk because it comes from an animal as the only right option, and returning to live in the trees and stuff... all the while using a xerox and glossy paper by tons to spread the more reasonable official greenpeace views...ill just tell you that they were so much cracy in fact that i was tempted to file it under "sects"

I agree that some environmentalists can be a bit secular but they still have some value user added image

Due to the very nature of the problem we will have to work with people that we wouldn't normally just because one group can achieve the results on their own.

I am very excited about the idea of a lawsuit, they are well within their right to take people like the Bush and Blair administration into account for all that they have done (or failed to do as the case may be). Those two are probably the biggest terrorists in the world and it's high time they paid for some of their crimes against humanity. Don't agree with me, who do you think has caused the death of more Innocent lives? Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Husan or George W Bush and Tony Blair. The facts speak for them selves.

Anyway, im not here to point out the obvious. I sure hope they win their lawsuit. Who knows, it might be a turning point. user added image

I have been a bit quite of late as I am having some problems with my PC. While I struggle to fix my PC I had Channel 4 news on (probably the second most credible news program in the UK).

The asked the countries leading risk expert to list the top ten risks to the country. Based on how many people will die, how long it will last and what percentage of the population will be affected.

I suppose most people were expecting something like a terrorist attack which was actual number 10. Or maybe an extreme winter which was only half way up there. What about bird flu that looks like it is coming here and there is still no cure. Estimates say that at least 50,000 people could die from it. That was only number 2.

So the number one threat to the people of this country is the Gulf Stream shutting down. Not wanting to sound like a an activist but when faced with the facts it does make for sober reading. So to try and do my bit to avert the biggest threat to this country I have posted the link to the Channel 4's page on news reports about the environment and also has a few tips on staying green (like it isn't easy enough).

Merry Christmas everyone user added image
