Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

where is this hidden away in Maya? cant find it anywhere

If you're coming from C4D, I think what you're looking for is soften/harden edges.

thanks..I thought phong shade angle was a universal term?

I'm not the right person to explain it, but I think the more universal term is adjusting the normals, which maya does by harden soften edge, or changing the normal angle. And C4D does by changing the phong shading angle.
