Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Mirroring Problem

I have a minor mirroring issue that is driving me crazy. This part of the model accidentally got rotated. I straightened it out the best I could and snapped each vertex to the grid. I've done this many times before to fix a model before mirroring it. However despite the model being lined up correctly it won't mirror properly. It always gives me a big gap in the middle.

This is what happens if I mirror it no matter the setting.

This is how it SHOULD look.

check if translation value in the duplicate special option is all on 0. looks like X is on -1.

Yeah its all 0. I rarely use that so not sure why it would have changed in the first place. Moving the pivot has no effect on the mirror setting. This is strange. user added image

You look to have a pretty big build up of history. Try deleting that and resetting transformations then snap the pivot back to the edge of the model and try again.

What i always do is i press insert to move the pivot, hold v and snap to the edge closest to the middle of your mesh then move the whole mesh into the middle grid "edge", freeze transformation then duplicate ...

if that doesnt work then i dont know what's wrong

Also make sure your duplicate special settings are properly setup... all transformation nodes must be at 0

whops didnt see your pictures ....
try deleting history
