Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Is there any easy way to create lumber?

I'm trying to use the Wood texture on a cylinder, but no luck in making the texture form concentric rings on the sides of the cylinder, to make it look like this:

Should I create a cylinder from a cube instead and try to make the textures fit it or do I really have to keep rotating / resizing the UVs in the UV Texture editor? I don't want to use any other textures than those from Maya for this.

I've got what I wanted out of a ramp, but couldn't do it without adding a huge ngon to the cylinder so it won't look flowery...

Well, seems like it wasn't even needed, the texture is barely visible anyway, good firewood still.

I'm curious as to why this absolutely had to be done procedurally.

Too lazy to pack textures, should I need to send the file over to someone else to render it for me.
I just like to keep most information inside a file and then when I send it, I wouldn't have to give them texture maps, etc. And I find it easier to use Ramp + blinn or lambert without any external files.

But anyway, I have finished the scene I was working on, except I need to figure out how to deal with the candle flames, adding 3 lights kind of messes the scene up. And the flames in the fireplace appear to exhibit a glow that's too strong, in spite of the lowering of the glow effect.
