woah... that's smooth to the 10th degree!

You rarely want to smooth higher than maybe 2 iterations. 1 usually works.

As for those markings, it looks like you need to adjust shadow settings. Increase the resolution some. Perhaps increase filter size, too.

Hey, You said that was going to be a low poly model. I was guessing it was for a game, but I dont think it is any more. If you used incremental saves, I would go back, smooth once and then do what withchy said. That would work better.
