Scaling my skinned geometry

Hi all
Can anyone tell me why I cant scale my skinned character? Ive tried grouping, parenting but the geometry scales but the skeleton lags behind it. I need to in large it as I have to take it over to motion builder, when I import it as it is it's so small to work with.

It's the skeleton's root joint, along with any IK handles and locators you have that you'd need to group together and scale.
