Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

not selecting hidden vertices

I am starting to practice my modelling skills and have found an annoying attribute.

When selecting vertices, particually with the box selection, is there a way I can prevent maya from selecting the vertices that are hidden behind the surface shown, (in shaded mode).

i.e when selecing vertices around the mouth, some on the back of the head/neck will be selected if they fall withing the selection box.

I am working with nurbs, sub-d's and polys.

Many thanks, Richard user added image

Hi Richard,

I'm not sure with the subDiv's and Nurbs... but with the polygons you can turn on backculling...

go to "Display"... --> "Custum Polygon Display" (optionbox)...

and then go to the bottom of this menu, and make "Backculling" on... also make sure there is a "marker" in the checkbox "BackCulling" at the second line "vertices"... user added image
